One of the most unique and well known natural pools in Extremadura. We propose you to spend the whole day in the middle of nature. This implies a short walk and no beach bar to have anything to drink. But, believe me, it is worth it. It is ideal to spend the whole day, we leave in the morning, park the car at the entrance to the park and walk about 3km along the trail (surrounded by beautiful mountain scenery) to reach the site. Remember to bring comfortable shoes, a towel to lie on a rock and some snacks and soft drinks (or water). Don't forget that you are in a nature reserve, be respectful, don't alter the environment or the animals and of course don't leave any kind of waste (so it doesn't look like you've been there). Otherwise enjoy it. The return, being downhill, will be more comfortable.

La Pesquerona is undoubtedly one of the largest and most complete natural pools in the north of Extremadura. As is logical, it also has a large number of bathers. It is located on the river Jerte, just 500 meters above Cabezuela and has lawn with shaded area, sandy area (almost say beach), parking area, a bar with terrace and a restaurant with chillout for a drink. In general, it is a very flat area with very good access.

It is a circular route of approximately 5.5 km and lasts 2-2 hours and a half. It is a little longer because it is common to stop to take pictures during its 4 waterfalls. We can make it a little longer if we go up to a last waterfall, the fifth, (it is worth it if you go with enough time). We will find this last one if we reach an asphalted track and continue up the path (it is perfectly indicated).

Gargata De Marta, more than a gorge is a place, an idyllic spot, where we will enjoy a large and wooded picnic area, the remains of an old wine press and a gorge that ends in a beautiful waterfall.

El Caozo is surprising not only because it is a magnificent waterfall, but also because it is practically next to the road (a quick and easy access). In the rainy season, the spectacle is fascinating, nothing that can be told with photographs. In addition, the administration has placed a metal footbridge that allows to approach the torrent of water and has become one of the most photographed places in the valley.

The ascent to the Pilones is something that every visitor should do, at least in some of his visits to the Jerte Valley. Los Pilones is a natural accident and occurs when the gorge passes through a granite area on its way to the Jerte River. This stream has caused a deep erosion over thousands of years on the granite rock, sculpting large pools that visitors use as a bathing area in summer. But it is also a spectacle at any time of the year, especially when it rains and the water hits the rocks with such force that it causes fear.

This route that we propose takes advantage of a small section of another much larger route, called Route of the Gorge of Hells (which is just the gorge where the Pylons are located). Therefore, we will park in the area designated for this purpose at the entrance to the nature reserve of the Garganta de los Infiernos (which is paid, by the way), and we will follow this route, in a climb of about 3 km, to the area of the Pilones. Once we have seen the Pilones and have taken lots of photos, instead of continuing the other route, we will return by the same path to our vehicle, totaling a total of approximately 6 km. But what is the Otoñada?

It is an extensive program of activities that takes place in the Jerte Valley taking advantage of the visit of tourists and nature lovers who come during this time to enjoy the wonderful landscapes fruit of the chromatic variety that bring the ocher, red, green and brown by the fall of the leaf (in this way also becomes an incentive for each year to come in greater numbers).

Truly, the valley is really beautiful during this time and it is a spectacle to hike, ride the mountain roads or just take a stroll through nature. Even the humidity or the fog give a special touch to the environment. And what can we say if in addition, the rains accompany and the waterfalls overflow with water. In other words, a natural spectacle accompanied by a multitude of activities every week.

On the road up to the Torno, just 3.6km away once we left the N-630 that runs from end to end the valley of Jerte, we find this sculpture that is strategically located on a natural viewpoint. It will be rare not to find more than one vehicle parked. It is a very nice place, not only for the beauty and style of the figures (it is touching) but also for the deep views in both directions to the end of the valley and, on the other side, the reservoir to the city of Plasencia. If you do not go to the winch, it is well worth a detour and lose a few minutes to enjoy this viewpoint.

If you like, here I am going to propose in general, certain places, all related to Piornal, which have wonderful views. Piornal is the highest village in Extremadura and since you bother to climb to the top (1200 m altitude), maybe you want to take advantage of the visit and visit the different points.

My advice is to take advantage of the sunset, and now I will tell you about the different places from where you can contemplate the landscape. I would take the opportunity to bring a soda and a snack and stop for the afternoon. You have pleasant walking areas.

Perhaps the best place from where to see the whole valley in its immensity (the deep valley), the viewpoint of Tornavacas is located just up the mountain pass that separates Extremadura from Castilla y León. It is located at 1274 meters al titude and is a must stop for those who travel between the Valley and the great central plateau. An ideal place to take a few minutes of rest and even take the opportunity to eat a sandwich.

Every weekend, Granadilla is full of tourists. It is, undoubtedly, a good time to take a trip and visit this old abandoned village declared a historic-artistic site. Ideal to go with the family (adults and children) and walk along its walls and streets (in many cases semi-ruined) and, of course, climb to the top of the castle.

It is a small village, semi-derelict, surrounded in its entirety by a wall that you can go around almost completely and that offers beautiful views of the Gabriel y Galán reservoir (which surrounds most of the village). But for views, the ones you will enjoy when you climb to the top of the castle. The castle imposingly guards the entrance of the wall that gives access to the village. It is very original and not too high, so it is advisable to climb to the top (perhaps not for very old people, because of its steep spiral stairs) as it serves as a viewpoint. The landscape, with the water of the reservoir surrounding the village, is really beautiful.

The route is short and if you walk a lot you will have seen everything in little more than an hour. On the outside, next to the parking lots there are groves of trees and a small area that serves as a picnic area. If we take a snack, we can have a nice time.

Cáparra is well worth a visit. It is a small archaeological site of an ancient Roman city of great importance in the life of the time. And where stands out, above all, its quadruple arc, unique in its kind in the Iberian Peninsula and has become one of the symbols of Extremadura.

You can visit the site, after passing through the interpretation center (in this case of great interest if you like to know everything about the great infrastructures created by the Romans). It is an enclosed area with parking area that you can visit with the family on the days and times established (see below for visiting hours).
